In the window of Crumbs Bake Shop, it says something: You can taste happiness.
A certain someone was eager to test this theory. Two certain someones. And I figured it’s Spring Break, time out of time, why not?
We picked one to share. The Easter-themed Peep Peep cupcake.
Going.
Going.
Gone.
I am certainly not a cupcake connoisseur by any stretch, but that might have been the best cupcake I’ve ever tried.
Or maybe it was indeed happiness I was tasting?
Are you a cupcake fan? What’s your favorite dessert/bakery? Are you pretty liberal with sweet treats like I am?

I love cupcakes! I make it a point to taste them in every city I visit. The best cupcakes I have ever had were in Lake Charles, LA at Cypi’s Cakebox. So good and they are huge. It’s the real deal. The cupcake is moist and and has real cream cheese icing. Not a fan of all the chains. Although I have to say those mini cupcakes from sweet’s by Melissa are fantastic as well. (I think she is the one that makes the mini ones in NYC)
Love Baked By Melissa! And so do my girls. Their fave is the cotton candy which is blue. Plan on penninga bite-sized post about them in fact as they too have played a sweet role in our Spring Break story
Love sweets and when something is made with love, it truly is a taste of happiness.
So funny because now I am remembering this guy in law school who was conducting a study of the connection between various nation’s crime rates and quality of baked goods. He argued that there is a critical link between happiness levels and sweets
maybe he was really on to something!!
That is funny
I am a cupcake fanatic! Like Brei – I make sure to visit a cupcake shop in any town I visit.
My favorites: Kara’s Cupcake in Northern California and Sprinkles (of course!). I have not tried Magnolia’s or Crumbs, but they are both on my list.
Hav heard amazing things about Sprinkles and think they might be in NYC now??? Crumbs and Magnolia are both outrageously good. Hmm, am realizing cupcakes are quite popular!
I am a huge Crumbs fan. The Squiggle and the Devil’s Food are my favorites – although it’s hard to pick. We always come home with at least a dozen after every NYC visit. Glad you enjoyed your treat as well! (And yes, I always feel happy when I leave Crumbs!)
Those two are really good. My favorite thing to do is get the pack of mini cupcakes so we can sample many kinds. Love that each one has only 100 cal. Now, if it were actually possible to stop at one…
Crumbs is my absolute favorite – founded by grads of my alma mater. I don’t think I will ever stop being liberal with sweet treats. They are a magical cure for whatever ails you, and life simple wouldn’t be worth it without some of that magical sugar-induced happiness
There’s a little hometown place near me called, Boulder Baked (in downtown Boulder, CO) and they have amazing homemade cupcakes! Chocolate Mousse filled and Lemon are my faves!

Cupcakes so taste like happiness to me — in fact, I’m obsessed. I try not to bake too many because then I sit around eating too many, but they’re such fun! A friend of mine has her own baking business and she makes some outstanding treats, though I have to toot my own horn and say mine are pretty delectable. (A recent Guinness chocolate cupcake with Bailey’s buttercream is a new favorite.)
