ADR Friday Loves 10.05.12

Posted On: 10.05.12

Confession: I wear my fair share of black. Not nearly as much as I used to, but still. These days, I am not afraid of color and bright color even. But, time and time again, I come back to my standard black pieces. I recently went on my annual birthday shopping trip with Mom and I picked three things: a vest, a messenger bag to lug el laptop, and a fabulous “A” cocktail ring. And Husband got me a fierce and floppy leather jacket. Guess what? Yup, they are all black. And I have no doubt that I will wear these things all the time. (Thanks, Mom! Thanks, babe!) Anyway, here are this week’s Friday Loves. Enjoy and happy weekend, peeps!

 1. New York Words

I am a New York girl. I love writing and reading words about this city of mine. E.B. White’s Here Is New York, a love letter to this wonderful place, is among my absolute favorite books about the Big Apple. It is spare but powerful and I have gobbled it up again and again. The book inspired me so much that it serves as a central theme in my work-in- progress, a modern novel about three women who met at Yale and live, yup, here in NYC.

2. Black Baubles.

These days, I am loving fun black jewelry. We all know that black goes with everything, but it strikes me as an irreverent, if unexpected, choice for jewelry. I am digging vintage black stud earrings, clunky black men’s watches and these fabulous Gold Dotted Hoop Earrings from Alexis Bittar.

3. Words as Art.

If you know me, you know that I love words, and love making them into art. I have stayed up way too late many nights combining my favorite quotes with my favorite photos on PicMonkey, and I love the idea of words as art on our blogs, and in our homes. My dream office would be blanketed in framed and artified words. I am a big fan of this Deer Head Quote currently on sale at the amazing One Kings Lane. You know this site, right? Amazing. And dangerous!

4. The Lumineers, Baby.

Sister T gets all of the credit for introducing me to the Lumineers. It’s not often that I fall in love with a new group, but I have fallen and hard. Their 2012 self-titled debut is full of soulful and quirky tunes and I love them all. If I had to pick a few favorite tracks, I’d go with: Flowers in Your Hair, Ho Hey, and Charlie Boy, but I genuinely love all of them. I often listen to this album on repeat as I am writing.

5. Swanky Sweats.

When I am home, done with my day, I like to be cozy and cute. Enter swanky sweats. My favorite sweatshirt these days is Wildfox Couture’s J’Adore Malibu Barefoot Sweater. I even paid tribute to this article of clothing in my silly post Vacation With Kids. Ask Husband about this sweatshirt and he will smile. I wear it a lot!

6. Badass(ish) Boots.

I love boots. And these boots (studded with tiny skulls!) are pretty ridiculous. I don’t own them, but they are certainly on my purchasing radar for fall. Click here to see more great Ash Boots at Polyvore. While we are talking boots, check out these gray biker boots that Big Girl’s been sporting and stay tuned to see baby’s latest pair back here on Monday!

 ♥

What are you loving these days? What is your favorite New York story? Any new music picks? What do you hang out in at home? Do you wear a lot of black?

Oh, and...

Thank you, guys!!! xoxo. Thanks for all of the wonderful and heartfelt birthday wishes yesterday. They meant a great deal and contributed to what turned out to be a wonderful day. xoxo, ADR {How do you feel about people who sign "xoxo"? I love it, but am curious!)

  1. Love. I’m not from New York but even so I love Here is New York. And I keep thinking I want biker boots, but am not sure I am hip enough to pull them off! xoxo

  2. Lindsey

Love the sweatshirt – I have it too and have been living in it on the weekends. Physique purchase?

  3. Ah, yes, black…love it, you know I do. I need some new lounge-y clothes as a matter of fact. Hmmm. As always, loving the Friday Loves!

  4. Meg

Great picks! I’m often dressed in all black or nearly all black, too… not sure why that is, but I guess I associate it with “professionalism” during the work week. Plus, black is easy to coordinate with pops of color — which is the new trick in my metaphorical wardrobe bag these days! Lots of hot pink and red going on.

  5. Jess

clicked on the sweatshirt link – the creamy colored one is awesome too :) . If I ever needed a sweatshirt down here I would be very tempted! (I’m tempted to sign xoxo, clearly a favorite sign off of mine!)

  6. all i wear is a black top with jeans. like 95% of the time. i’m sad when all of my jeans are in the wash.

  7. Black cocktail rings are fabulous, especially if you go to an event where you are the only one not wearing an LBD. I don’t like black cocktail rings or black staement necklaces with all balck clothes or LBD’s as it reminds me of mourning jewelery. Even though mourning jewels were a Victorian thing, I still have relatives who follow that tradition.
