Happy Halloween!

Posted On: 10.31.12

Still no school. The city is a mess. And we are home, still home, getting a bit stir crazy, but beyond thankful that’s the extent of our worries. Hard to believe that it’s Halloween. But the girls are as excited as ever, counting down the hours until it’s time to don their respective costumes (Doc McStuffins, Sleeping Beauty, and a TBD-hand-me-down) to go trick-or-treating on my childhood block.

And I’m excited to tag along as they go door to door, smiling, and collecting sweets. I’m excited to escape the somber news reports and partake in the innocence and glee of this holiday. And perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself, but I’m also excited for Starbucks’ holiday cups and to start blasting Christmas music in this neck of the woods. Nothing wrong with that, right? (The kiddos are currently watching the Yo Gabba Gabba Christmas Special. Alas. It runs in the family.)

Hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween. And that you are all hanging in there after Sandy.

How will you spend Halloween? What are you or your kids dressing up as? Did you enjoy Halloween as a kid? Are you irrationally pumped about the holiday season? Do you think there’s anything wrong with listening to Christmas music this early?

Oh, and...

Share.

  1. Happy Halloween to you and yours! Glad you got through Sandy.

And I share your enthusiasm for Starbucks holiday cups. They’re one of my favorite seasonal changes, right up there with falling leaves!

  2. Nothing at all wrong with holiday music now. As I think you know, I listen to carols year-round! So I love this time of year because I am not a superfreak (well, on that one dimension). xox

  3. This is the second year we’ll be going to my aunt’s house for Halloween to help hand out candy. Gavin’s city cousins and some other family friends also go, so we make a little Halloween party out of it. Whether he’ll be in costume is TBD. He was supposed to be a garden gnome today, but refused to get into his costume for daycare. It’s going to be up to my husband to convince G to wear it tonight.

Definitely nothing wrong with getting pumped about the holidays! I actually wrote a column today about how I’m a little glad we’re through Halloween so I can get excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve already started my holiday shopping, actually — which is partly due to the fact that I’d like to spread out those bills! But still, it’s fun. And gives me something to look forward to.

We did our Halloween celebrating last weekend, pre-Sandy, so tonight I think we’re staying in and listening for any neighbor kids. I’ve got plenty of Tootsie Pops, but I have a feeling I’ll be eating most of those myself.

Have a happy and safe Halloween Aidan and no I don’t see anything wrong with listening to Christmas music this early! Enjoy your evening, God bless. :-)
