On Habits (& Hair)

Posted On: 10.01.12

How many times a day do you…

… check your email?

… check your hair?

… check the stock market?

… worry about your kids?

… worry about your parents?

… worry about your finances?

… ask “what if”?

… ask “why me”?

… ask “why her”?

… think about morality?

… think about mortality?

… say “you can’t do that”?

… think I can’t do that?

… say “thank you”?

… believe thank you?

… ask someone “how are you”?

… ask yourself “how am I”?

… say “I love you”?

… think I love myself?

Answer any or all of the questions above. I am becoming more and more curious about the metaphysics of habits, about the internal monologue that fills the cracks of our days. I am also simply curious how often you guys check email because I do probably every seven minutes during the day (nope, not healthy!) Oh, and how’s your hair?

Oh, and...

Check email waaaaay too often. Worry all the time. But my hair’s pretty great :)

  2. Worrying. Checking email. Asking why and what. All the time. But learning/attempting to live with not knowing the answers everytime I ask those questions.

  3. I’m not a hair checker. I’m a lip checker. I check my lips, lipstick, gloss, nothing in my teeth, CHECK. Then about 5 min later I find myself doing it again.

Emails, when at my freelance job I check as soon as that little pop up box says I have a message (outlook) at home, about every 5 min during email time. BUT I have schedule off tech time which I am not at my comp. So I rarely check the email that shows on my phone unless I am expecting something. But now to answer in order

… check your email? stated abocve

    … check your hair? nope

… check the stock market? dont care

… worry about your kids? noep all grown boys 20 and 22

… worry about your parents? yes too often lately

… worry about your finances? no I have a Money Plan Vision Board…wishing debt would go down faster, yes, but cant do anything about it so I don’t worrry.

… ask “what if”? Like a 3 year old

… ask “why me”? Yes I still beleive life should be fair for some odd reason

… ask “why her”? no but I do think why that clique or crowd or group that I don’t fit into

… think about morality? Nope Im a good girl

… think about mortality? Nope Im ready to die. Ive lived a great life, I feel I have left my fragrance on the world, I feel I have made a difference, I gave away most of my worldly possessions last year in a “I am so done carry this crap around moment”

… say “you can’t do that”? on Television? LOL (For those who know what I am talking about raise your hand. It was an old Tv show)

… think I can’t do that? Nope I beleive in me and you and the world

    … say “thank you”? Alot

… believe thank you? I do

… ask someone “how are you”? Every day and then stand there waiting for the answer which shocks the shi* out of them

… ask yourself “how am I”? Daily in meditations

… say “I love you”? To everyone I can.

… think I love myself? If I don’t no one else will!

I have a new site also called My Life as a Female Robot
    http://www.mylifeasafemalerobot.com

It’s about living the life we are in and not being so addicted and stuck on tech. I am going to post this article on there. I would love a Guest post from you sometime! :)

I’m to the point where I don’t think I’m ever not checking email. At work, both my work email and personal email are up all the time — and I check for that little “(1)” on the Gmail tab about every 15 seconds. Probably not exaggerating. And when I’m not at my desk? My iPhone is pretty much always in my hand. It’s sort of… exhausting, actually, when I think about it. But I’m so sucked into technology that it’s hard to imagine it otherwise.

Checking my hair? Every time I go to the restroom, which results in the inevitable “wetting” method to tame my frizzy locks. Worrying about finances? Every other day. Saying “thank you”? Not as often as I should, but often enough — I hope.

Thanks for another thought-provoking post, Aidan!

I often think about how much I could get done if I didn’t spend so much time doing some of these things – checking email, worrying, wondering what if. So much energy used for things that on some level don’t deserve us, right?

I check my email alot, probably not as much as I check Facebook, but still. My hair is okay,I guess lol. These questions are making me think, I know I say “I love you” and “thank you” but I don’t know how many times a day I do, something tells me I should say them more often.

Ha these days I’m lucky if I get to check my hair, or my email, once a day! But I say “I love you” all day long to my little ones. On balance I think it’s better to have messy hair but lots of baby kisses so I’m embracing it while I can. Soon enough my hair will look better but the baby kisses won’t be as plentiful.
