Dear Kate Middleton

dear kate,

I don’t know you, but I am happy for you. When I heard the news yesterday, I was sitting in one of my favorite coffee shops, writing. My friend Heather, a fellow writer, sat at the neighboring table, and she pulled out her earbuds and looked at me. You heard Kate is pregnant, right? She didn’t have to use your last name; I knew. I knew it was you.

And I smiled. Because I loved being pregnant and I love being a mom. Hearing that someone is pregnant, even someone I don’t know, even a princess, brings me joy. Is that odd? Perhaps. Anyway, I hope you feel good and take care of yourself and that the press gives you a bit of room to breathe and enjoy this anticipatory time. (Ha.)

Some advice? Eat lots of organic Fuji apples, drink lots of orange Gatorade, and take lots of naps. Oh, and if you’d like me to name your baby when the time comes, just holler.

xoxo, ADR

Are you happy for Will & Kate or do you not really care? What do you make of society’s swelling obsession with pregnant public figures? Any pregnancy tips to pass along to the princess?

Oh, and...

Share.

  1. I am VERY happy and I have to admit I was a bit giddy when I found out that Will and Kate are due the same week as my wife and I….color me dork :)

PS-I will inform my wife about the Fuji apples and orange gatorade!

I’m so excited for Kate and Wills! And I’m hoping for twins.

  3. I feel a bit like you do when I hear of other’s being pregnant. i smile a little wistfully to myself. My advice… don’t listen to any!!! Also, I do hope she makes it through her pout of severe morning sickness okay. Lots of luck!

  4. SO happy for dear Kate and Will – hoping for a little girl for them!

  5. I can’t say that I’m happy for them, but I’m not sad, disappointed or mad, either. To me, it’s just a bit of news about a couple who lives their life with public scrutiny. Though, I hear Kate has had terrible nausea in the first few weeks. I can relate and would suggest she eat lots and lots of oyster crackers – it’s how I survived my first trimester.

I was so excited when I heard, too! I actually found out I am pregnant just last week (very early still), so everything pregnancy-related suddenly is making me very giddy:-).

I actually squealed when I heard — super excited and happy for them! Of course, I was also one of the crazy people up at 5 a.m. to enjoy all the wedding-related fun on the day of their nuptials… and was actually in London just before the wedding. And attended Easter Mass at Westminster Abbey the weekend prior. And then pretended I was royalty as I walked through the grand doorway.

So good to know I was not the only one who experienced a bit of vicarious excitement for the royal pair. I am continually fascinated by how invested so many of us become in the lives of celebs and public figures though… Believe me, I’m the one buying the ridiculous magazines at the pharmacy (though far less than I used to) but I really am not sure why we care so much? Any thoughts? This could obviously be its own post, right?
