intelligent people
intelligent people

I stumbled upon this Hemingway quote and it has me thinking. I've often wondered about the connection, if any, between levels of intelligence and happiness. I've noticed in my own life that the smartest people I know are often the most unhappy and tortured. Why is this? Maybe it's because the more we think and perseverate about the conditions of existence and identity, the more miserable we are? Maybe those who are less "intelligent" see life through a simpler lens, ask fewer questions, catastrophize less, analyze less, etc? I don't really know, but I'm curious.

What do you guys think? Is Hemingway right about this? Do you know highly intelligent people who appear to be very happy? Do you think there is indeed a link between these two things or no?

{As a fun aside, my late grandfather went fishing with Hemingway in his day. I wish Pa were around to tell me about what that was like, but a little research will have to suffice :)}
